Liberating Love: An Embodied Exploration With Mona Chopra

In our contemporary world, the word “love” is often used too loosely – and – too narrowly. On the one hand, “love” is often reserved for a very particular kind of relationship, the romantic sort, exalted in mainstream cultures around the world. On the other hand, in everyday language, “love” is used to refer to our preferences for everything from food (“I love French fries”) to clothing (“I love your shirt.”). So – what do we really mean by “love”? And what is it’s liberating power? According to the Buddhist teaching known as the Brahma Viharas (Divine Abode), we do not need to escape to some “heaven” outside of our earthly existence in order to live in a divine abode. We simply need to cultivate certain immeasurable states of heart-mind, that enable us to embody a truly liberating love. In this workshop, we will explore the practice of liberating our hearts. We will water the seeds of these mind-heart states and connect with them in an embodied way through movement, breath work, and meditation practice.
