80th & Lextures: The Power of Words ~ Language as a Spiritual Practice

80th & Lextures Presents: The Power of Words ~ Language as a Spiritual Practice.

Words matter, and sometimes the question of what the “right words” are can feel overwhelming to those of us who care about treating people who are different from us with respect. Join guest Alex Kapitan speak about the power of words, how to use more care in your language, and how to get out of your head and into your heart when it comes to navigating the ever-shifting landscape of language around gender, race, disability, and more.

Zr. Alex Kapitan is a trans and queer lifelong Unitarian Universalist who bridges the worlds of publishing, ministry, and activism. Ze is the co-founder of the Transforming Hearts Collective, a faith-based LGBTQ healing justice organization, and the founder of Radical Copyeditor, an anti-oppressive language project. As a radical copyeditor, Alex does consulting, training, editing, and writing to help people align their words with their values, rooted in the idea that because language both describes and creates reality, we have a responsibility to describe and create the best possible reality we can imagine.
