Zen in Action in NYC
Zen Roshi Hui Neng Stan Koehler started Peace on the Street with Sifu Richard Garcia in 2003. An applied Zen program of martial arts, meditation, education, and conflict resolution training in East Harlem, Peace on the Street aims to transcend class barriers with Buddhist teachings.
Roshi Stan is ordained in the Hollow Bones Order of Zen. He has been involved with many projects as a Zen teacher in NYC–leading meditation programs for people incarcerated at Rikers Island, attending to people actively dying at Mount Sinai hospital, and mentoring young men in their academic work. Pamela Patton and Roshi Stan will discuss his practice and his projects, and there will be plenty of time for questions from attendees.
