Welcome: Plan Your Visit

Welcome to All Souls NYC! We are so glad you are interested in joining us for worship or one of our many community activities. We want to make it easy for you to find your way around our “Open Hearts, Open Minds” community. Take a look around our website, and if you have any additional questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to our Membership Administrator, Robert Wohner, (212) 535-5530.

Sunday Worship Services

From the Sunday after Labor Day, through mid-June, we have two services each Sunday — one at 10 am, and the second at 11:15 am. Both of these services are substantially the same, though families with children are particularly encouraged to join us at 10 am, when we often include special worship elements designed for all ages. We do have nursery care for babies and those under 5 years old, and religious education programs for children at both 10 and 11:15 am. Additionally, special activity baskets are available for families whose children prefer to remain in the service with their parents.

Come, come, whoever you are

All Souls is a Welcoming Congregation, which means we openly affirm and support our LGBTQIA members and friends. Whoever you love, you are welcome here. Our congregation also welcomes you no matter what your spiritual history or current religious leanings — we have members from every religious background, as well as those who consider themselves to be atheist or agnostic. Our congregation seeks to be a place where every member is encouraged in their “free and responsible search for truth and meaning.” We do this together in worship, in small group settings, in educational programs for all ages, and in our warm conversations with one another as we gather in fellowship.

Come as you are

Whether you are more comfortable in NYC-style business attire, the relaxed fit of jeans and a t-shirt, or somewhere in between, you will feel at home at All Souls. We want you to bring your whole self, just as you are. You are welcome here.

An All Souls Sunday service

Many people wonder what the worship experience will be like when they are visiting for the first time. All Souls is celebrating over 200 years as a congregation. As such, we believe you will discover the excellence and beauty of worship that has allowed us to flourish over these many years. Our All Souls Choir and music program is considered one of the best in the nation, and is conducted by our internationally honored director, Alejandro Hernandez-Valdez. Drawing from the world’s musical traditions, they perform sacred music from every age — including modern variations. We sing together, have readings, and a 15-20 minute sermon is preached by our Senior Minister, the Rev Dr. Galen Guengrich, or our Associate Minister, the Rev. Audette Fulbright, plus occasional guest preachers. The sermons are topical, spiritually deep, and always seek to encourage further ethical exploration and engagement with the world around us. For those of you who may have very little church background, the order of service provided as you arrive will help you become familiar with what is happening next throughout the service.

Join us for fellowship after the service!

Unitarian Universalists consider coffee a sacrament, or so the old joke goes. We certainly consider our after-service coffee hour a deeply important time of connection and friendship-building. Served after our 11:15 service, coffee hour is where you can grab a cup of coffee or tea and a snack, meet new faces, ask questions at our New Member table, browse our bookstore, or explore the many justice-oriented and other activities happening at the church. You’ll find that we are a warm and welcoming community — just waiting to meet you!
